This is an area that I've been aware of for a long time. When my wife and I got married 18 years ago we each signed wills so that people would know what to do if something happened to us. At the same time, we signed living wills and powers of attorney for each other, both medical and general. We’ve updated some of those documents in the years since so they're all current.
This is proven to be very beneficial since she can no longer speak for herself and our medical system requires you have a medical power of attorney or they can't talk to you. I've been really happy that we made those decisions when we did.
Until we actually engaged with Transitions Lifecare two years ago I was not even aware of a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate). Since then, I've been really happy that we got that paperwork signed, it makes dealing with the EMT's, doctors and hospitals much simpler.
