I have been blessed to have found three wonderful ladies (angels, really) who give me a total of 20 hours of help per week caring for my wife to give me time to deal with my appts., dealing with taking care of the house, car, yard, meal prep, laundry, etc., etc., and even sometimes getting a break to just 'chill.' One of them, depending on their other work and family schedules, gives us four hours of help M-F. I am on my own over the weekend. These are all independent care providers, they do not work for an agency. My CPA just informed me that if I pay them over $2,600 in 2023 I am supposed to be taking out Social Security and Medicare taxes on what I pay them, and I have to withhold that same amount for me as their employer. This amounts to 12.4% for SS, and 2.9% for Medicare for a total of 15.3%. Do any of you have a similar situation? If so how are you handling it? Doing the withholding on your own or outsourcing to a third party payroll service?
