Today our local Fire/Police Departments sent me an email describing four emergency programs that they recommend and participate in. If any of these seem of interest I would suggest 'Googling' them to learn more, and/or contact your local Fire/Police departments.
1) I had previously had our local Fire Dept. install what is called a KnoxBox on the front door that contains a key to the front door should there ever be an emergency and they arrive at a locked house. This way then don’t have to break down the door or a window to gain access.
2) There is a program called Project Lifesavers that provides, for $10 a month, a tracking bracelet that can be traced 24:7 from ground and air should a loved one wander away from home. The staff are specially trained on how to search for, locate and approach individuals of compromised mental health. I am looking into setting up an account through the Fire Dept.
3) There is a program called RapidSOS that expedites response if a 911 call is made by, or for, a senior resident. I signed up my wife for this today.
4) There is a program called Vial of Life that supplies a two-page form that a loved one fills out for a senior, or compromised individual, that contains all kinds of vital information. This form is attached to the refrigerator, and decals for the front door and refrigerator are provided to indicate that the house has a resident that is part of this program and thus cueing the emergency team to check the refrigerator for the form. I downloaded the form and will be filling it out soon, and signing my wife up for the program administered through the local Fire Dept.
