My dad is the primary caregiver for my mom who has Alzheimer's. My two sisters and I help out as much as we can. We also make suggestions that aren't always well received by my dad. The washer/dryer are in the basement at my parent's house and my dad can't go up/down the stairs easily with the laundry basket. He insists he's being safe, but my sisters and I are very concerned he will fall. We do their laundry most times, but he will still do at least one load a week. We thought a great solution would be to have laundry facilities added to a closet on the first floor. My dad has refused to do this and continues to say he's safe on the stairs. So, we have dropped the subject. We've also encouraged my dad to get out to meet friends while my mom is at the adult day program several times a week. He is not interested. After many discussions, we have dropped this topic, too.
