My general situation is VERY similar to 'devellio's'. My wife is in mid-stage Alzheimer's, has aphasia, and extreme anxiety, especially separation anxiety from me. I believe some level of socialization and change of scenery is good if at all possible. We (myself and ONE other friend) have had success taking my wife to local NON-SPORTS restaurants by going at 2pm on Sundays, and summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day), when most people are grilling out or watching football at home. The crowds are typically low at that time on those days in our experience, and we also always ask for a quiet section of the restaurant. And we don't extend the stay beyond her comfort level. She has done quite well. And, this is a great break for me in two ways - it gets me out of the house too, and it is typically two less meals that I have to prepare (since we usually have a 'doggy bag' to take home) and I don't have to clean-up or do the dishes. WooHoo!!!
