Beware. Many long-term care facilities will accept deposits to be put on a waitlist if you are not quite Last Feb. I put down a waitlist deposit at a local memory care facility. This past Nov. I decided that I had found a closer facility to move her into and asked for the deposit back. The paper work I signed at the time clearly said they would refund it upon request if no one moved in to the facility. However, unbeknownst to me, the facility had been sold to a new parent company and the old parent company refused to refund saying it was used as a community fee at a sister facility where my wife spent some respite time. But that facility said they never saw the money. So I am stuck between a he said/she said situation. To take legal action would likely cost me more than the deposit amount. I have contacted the state attorney general's office to see if they can help but am still awaiting a determination to see if they will even get involved. Lesson learned. Beware of making deposits.
