When absent extended family starts to suddenly question you as caregiver

Hi... it's my first post. I'm new to the Trualta community as well. I have been caring for my Aunt (92 years old now, no kids of her own) for roughly the last 10 years. I moved her into an Independent Living community about 5 years ago, and now she has progressed into needing to be on the assisted living side of that same community. All of a sudden, the other 10 nieces and nephews, who never wanted to/or couldn't step up in the past have now decided to start questioning my decision about this move. It is hurting me that they are doing this to me, but they are feeding my Aunt their negativity (without even getting any background) and now she's begun to question me and my best interest for her. How can I help myself to deal with this situation, so I don't drive myself batty OR spout off to them and ruin family ties? Any suggestions???

I'm sorry this is happening to you. Both my parents went through Alzheimer's and I had to leave my job to care for them the last three years. My sister never helped at all but was only negative and counterproductive. Minimalizing anything I did. Unless you have gone through it people have no idea all that you go through or the work. The exhaustion.. they just can't understand. Hold the course of what you feel is right and stick to that. Be civil and polite but if you are doing what is right hold to that. You can do no more.
